“Health Hazzard” Must Resign

After a litany of portfolio failures, Hazzard's bungled closure of Temora Hospital's obstetrics theatre is the last straw.

Shooters Fishers and Farmers Party MLC Robert Borsak today called on Health Minister Brad Hazzard to tender his resignation from Cabinet.

“The closure of the obstetrics theatre at Temora Hospital was the last straw,” Mr Borsak said.

“The Health Hazzard Minister claims that he didn’t know about the closure of Temora’s obstetrics theatre. If he’s not across his own portfolio and won’t take responsibility for his own actions, he should resign.

“Hazzard failed as Planning Minister, failed as Attorney-General, failed as Community Services Minister, and now he’s failing as Health Minister. He basically gets the boot from Ministerial portfolios on an annual basis.

“Hazzard even tried to bribe me into abandoning an inquiry when I chaired the Parliamentary inquiry into the Operation Prospect police bugging scandal.

“If Health Hazzard won’t have a public inquiry into the Murrumbidgee Local Health District, then I will use the power of the Parliament to get to the bottom of it myself.”

Shooters Fishers and Farmers Party candidate for the Cootamundra by-election Matthew Stadtmiller said that country towns need certainty over their health services.

“I don’t believe the Health Minister when he says that he didn’t know about the closure of Temora Hospital’s obstetrics theatre,” Mr Stadtmiller said.

“If he really didn’t know then how can an unelected public servant close a vital health service without telling the Minister? We need to know who knew what and when.

“If we don’t have a public inquiry now, then my party will use the power of the Parliament to start one of their own.

“My opponent claims to be petitioning her own Government to build a demountable theatre for the hospital. That’s not good enough. Her party is in Government so they should just pick up the phone and call their Liberal Party bosses to fix the theatre.

“The fact that Ms Cooke has to petition her own Government makes a mockery of actually being in Government.”
