Stand Up for Your Right to Defend Yourself and Your Family
No law-abiding person should have to wonder whether defending themselves or their loved ones from a violent intruder could leave them facing criminal charges, civil lawsuits or financial ruin.
That's why Shooters, Fishers and Farmers MLC Mark Banasiak has introduced the Crimes Amendment (Use of Force Against Intruders) Bill 2026 into the NSW Parliament.
The Bill strengthens legal protections for ordinary people who are forced to use reasonable force to defend themselves or others against an unlawful intruder. It applies not only to homes, but also to workplaces, farms and vehicles, recognising that violent confrontations can happen anywhere. It also provides protection from civil liability and creates a pathway for innocent people to recover their legal costs if they are acquitted under the new laws.
This Bill is not about encouraging unnecessary violence or taking the law into your own hands. It is about ensuring the law stands with innocent victims who are confronted by an unlawful intruder and are forced to make split-second decisions to protect themselves or those around them. It provides greater legal certainty for law-abiding citizens while maintaining important safeguards that ensure any force used must be reasonable in the circumstances.
The NSW Parliament will soon debate this important legislation, and your local MP needs to hear where their community stands.
By taking just a minute to send an email, you can ask your local Member of Parliament to support Mark Banasiak's Home Defence Bill and help ensure the law better protects innocent people—not violent offenders.

Together, we can send a clear message to Parliament: when law-abiding people are forced to defend themselves and their loved ones against an unlawful intruder, the law should be on their side.
