Today is an historic day for the Shooters Fishers and Farmers Party, having the party's Orange by-election candidate Philip Donato elected by a margin of 50-votes at the declaration of the poll.

This is the first time in the party's 21 year history that it has elected a Member of Parliament to the Lower House of any jurisdiction.

"I am humbled by the result and to be the seventh Shooters Fishers and Farmers Party representative elected nation-wide," Mr Donato said.

"At the start of this election campaign I came with one premise: that the electorate of Orange deserves better. The result we have today shows that is what people wanted here."

Mr Donato said that once sworn-in he would hit the ground running to ensure locals in the Orange electorate are properly represented by their new Member of Parliament.

"Such a close result means that while the majority of locals supported me and believed in me, there were a substantial number who did not vote for me.

"Despite that, I will be a representative for all people in the Orange electorate, and I will work hard to gain everybody's trust."

Mr Donato thanked those who assisted in his campaign.

"I would like to thank everybody who supported me, voted for me, and believed in me.  I also would like to thank the NSW Electoral Commission for all their hard work in ensuring an accurate result, my campaign team, and the Shooters Fishers and farmers Party for their support."

Further details on Mr Donato's swearing-in will be available as they come to hand.
