Shooters Fishers and Farmers Party MLC Robert Borsak demanded answers from the State Government over plans to build an electrical substation on the car park of Oatley Seniors Centre.

“People at the Oatley Seniors Centre contacted my office with concerns that their car park will be stolen from them by the New South Wales Government to build a rail substation,” Mr Borsak said.

“I am demanding immediate answers from the Government. Why do they believe that seniors and their families do not deserve car park access to a Seniors Centre?

“This advocacy should be completed by the Member for Oatley Mark Coure, but clearly he is ineffective at standing up for his community and alleviating residents’ concerns.”

Mr Borsak added that Council owns the Oatley Seniors Centre’s buildings, while the land is owned by State Rail.

“My information is that Oatley Seniors Centre has a 50-year lease of the site dating back to the 1970s, and in my opinion that should remain. I would also question the safety of having a substation so close to Oatley Seniors Centre.

“We need to do more for our elderly, not strip them of vital services in their twilight years.

"I'm standing on the side of the senior citizens affected by this land-grab. Where's Gladys Berejiklian and Mark Coure?"

Mr Borsak’s question in Upper House Question Time today was directed to Minister Don Harwin representing the Minister for Transport.

Minister Harwin, who appeared to not know about Oatley Seniors Centre's plight, refused to provide an adequate response.
